Modeling Reel 2011

My Modeling Reel is now complete! I designed all of the characters, modeled them in Maya, detailed them in Zbrush and textured using Photoshop and BodyPaint 3D.

Polynesian Warrior

After much too long, the Polynesian warrior that I have been working on is now at a place that I can call "done." There are many things that I could still add in detailing and texturing, but I think I have exhausted this character enough and now it's time to take everything that I've learned from this project move onto the next.

Textures Done!

Sammy's allll done. Time for rendering :)

Sammy's Done!

Sammy's all done being modeled and posed. Now, he just needs textures!

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

I have been totally abusing my blog recently, and I almost feel bad... if I hadn't been focusing on my demo reel pieces. My doodles have not been updated here, but they are standing by, awaiting patiently to be uploaded :)

In the meantime, entertain yourselves with the models I've been working on since I've completed Celia.

The character above is obviously a WIP. I originally wanted to make a Hawaiian warrior, but I've decided to go with Fijian.

This character should look familiar! The sabino's model is finally done being sculpted and just needs a texture now. Isn't he menacing?

Celia Update Again

I've been devoting most of my time to finishing up this character for my demo reel. I think with some more refining, she's just about done! Don't mind her scary eyes - they're just nurbs and don't show up int he Maya viewport.
(And yes I've been doing my doodles... I swear I will upload them soon!)

248: Looking Up

Had this image in my head for a few days now and finally got it out... it's funny too because I originally hadn't imagined a little girl in it.

247: Birdie

Yes, I know it's the same character but I had to build an illustrator version of it. Plus, now it's happy! (Or this is before the spider showed up, hahaha)

Flying Heroes!

Here is another illustration I made for Cow Parade - it's our heroes in flight!

Illustrator Fun

Update: Okay so I got really into it today while watching Angry Beavers and just finished it off. I might still tweak the background, but for now, it is done!

I know I haven't updated in a while, but I promise you that I have been doing my Daily Doodles... I just need to scan and post them :)
In the meantime, here's a little something that I've been working on recently. I think I made this sketch at least a year ago and finally am getting around to making it in Illustrator. I don't know how long the final product will take me either, since I've been working on this on and off for the past month or so... It's become something I just like to work on now and then in my free time (or when I get sick of modeling... hey it happens!)

Artists Help Japan!

I think all of us are at a loss for words when it comes to the catastrophe that occured last week in Japan. Dice Tsutsumi has set up a fund to help raise money for the disaster. Please donate if you can, every little bit helps!

From Dice Tsusumi himself:
Hello everyone

I hope you and your loved ones are safe in the catastrophic disaster in Japan.
The earthquake was the most powerful in the history and the outcome is devastating without showing any sign of calming down.

It took me and my wife to get in touch with our families in Japan. Some of our relatives are still out of reach in the hard hit areas.

Aside from it’s my home country, I would simply want to ask for your help.
As you may know, artists have done numerous charity projects such as Totoro Forest Project, Art Block for Ghana, Picture Book Project, and Sketchtravel.
Artists once again can get together to bring our inspiration together to respond to the immediate needs from far east.

Working with Give2Asia who we worked with for Totoro Forest Project to help preserve Sayama Forest back in 2008, we set up a simple fund called Artists Help Japan.
Artists Help Japan Earthquake & Tsunami Fund is responding to the immediate needs of survivors as well as short-term to long-term recovery projects undertaken by the affected communities.

Give2Asia has a local team based in Tokyo to assess the current situation and to obtain more information on the needs of survivors. Give2Asia helped Totoro Forest Project efficiently send fund to Japan and has a great reputation when it comes to humanitarian efforts in Asia as a part of Asian Foundation.
Having worked with them, I can trust the fund will be used wisely and efficiently to help people in Japan.

This may be just a small help we can only provide from far away but I hope our prayers will reach people in Japan.

You might have already helped through other venues? Then please help spread the words on your blog and facebook!
***Give2Asia is a US 501 (c) (3) public charity, to which contributions are tax deductible (Federal Employer Identification #94-3373670).
Sincerely yours Dice Tsutsumi

Today we had a long discussion about "professionalism."
I think professionalism is all about seriousness... why so serious?!

092: Flying

Went hiking today with my boyfriend and Pakie. Super fun! After the hike up, we ran down the mountain. It felt like we were flying. Too bad my boyfriend didn't get to join in since he was carrying his giant ruck (50lbs!)

Found this while looking through some files. I made it a while ago, but don't think I ever posted it.
I think I might make a big print of this one :) I actually really like this piece.

083: Island Turtles

So I've been doing a lot of research about polynesian tattoos for a project I'm working on, and turtles are a huge symbol for Hawaiian tattoos. Sea turtles are a symbol of long life and fertility.

My friend made a unicorn out of his squishy eraser... It then became a unicorn giraffe.
