031: Bzzzz

Scientifically speaking, bees shouldn't be able to fly because their wings should not be able to lift their body weight... however, bees obviously do fly.
Science is wrong!

FA 2010

So I've been spending my entire quarter creating the two kids for our Pre-Production short. I modeled both characters in Maya, but they are still in the process of being perfected so I won't post them until later. But, here are some fun facial expressions for our little girl Kat.

I also did this for my final in Character Animation. Pretty pleased with the way it turned out :) Quote from Nacho Libre

004 Pigeon Toed

I didn't know I was pigeon toed until this passed weekend at CTN, and apparently everyone and their mother knew except me and my sister who's also pigeon toed (haha!)

003 Moose Baby

So here we go - day three. This one took a lot longer for some reason. I had the hardest time getting what I had in my head down on paper. Though this is sort of what I was going for, I'm still not quite happy with it. I'll probably make another attempt at a baby moose again tomorrow. They're just so funny looking with their long, lanky legs.

The 365 Daily Doodle Challenge

This weekend was both exciting and tiring after attending LA's CTN Expo! I met tons of wonderful people and artists, all who were so incredibly inspiring that I couldn't wait to draw once I got home.

One person in particular I met was the amazing Chris Ayers. If you aren't familiar with him, he is the author and artist of the book The Daily Zoo which holds 365 drawings by Chris, one drawing each day for a year. He told me that he started these drawings after battling leukemia. In his book, he mentions that he started the sketches the same day that he was diagnosed and each drawing is a personal reminder to do something you love every day. After both hearing and reading his story, I felt so inspired that starting yesterday, I decided that I too would take on the journey (and challenge!) of creating one drawing a day for an entire year.

Below are the first two of the 365 drawings to come.

Updating with Comparative Anatomy

Been a while since I've updated, so I just thought I'd throw this pic on here since I've been scanning all day anyway.

Studying animals for Comparative Anatomy. I've learned a ton in this class! Definitely have improved. Thanks Dzu!

3D Animation: Another Bouncing Ball?

Okay so I think I'm starting to get the hang of the Graph Editor. This wasn't as frustrating as the last one, but I did have some issues. Hopefully this process will progressively get easier.

This was our midterm assignment for 3D Animation... At least I think it's a midterm.
Open for comments and critique :)

End of Spring 2010

Haven't updated all quarter, so I thought I'd put some of my projects up for show now that finals are (basically) done for me, please enjoy :)

Advanced Material and Lighting

Objective: Light and texture given scene
Mental Ray render with Bokeh lens
Three main spot lights with five volume lights on the candles to light the scene

Advanced 2D Animation
Created the character and then used nesting

Oh and also, today I went to the Spring 2010 show and I must say, very impressive! Congratulations graduates of SP2010! Now it's off to the big bad world. Wish you all the best of luck :)

Finals for Material and Lighting

Final for material and lighting!
It sucked because I couldn't render at school since the computers couldn't handle my scene in Mental Ray... Had to render it on my poor macbook! I think it cried a little.

Ask and You will Receive

I've been having a hard time with Material and Lighting class because no matter what I do, I feel like my lighting just lacks. So I did what any struggling artist in need does - get help. I posted my latest project on Facebook asking for critique and tagged nearly everyone I knew. And then the strangest thing happened... people actually responded, with good and useful advice. Honestly, I was surprised with the amount of feedback I got.
I brought the scene back into Maya, re-did it with the advice I got, added the textures and this is what it turned into.

Amazing what critique can do, isn't it? Thanks everyone who helped

Self Portrait

Got bored the other day and just wanted to do a quick doodle of myself :) Yay for short hair!
I like the way it turned out, except for the fact that now when I look at it, I realize that my bangs are going the wrong way. I guess that is what happens when you draw from a mirror though, haha.

Quarter 7 Update

Hey sorry I haven't updated, I just got so caught up with work and school! Well here's an update. The following are from either my Materials and Lighting. You can expect an update from my Character Modeling class soon.

The wood texture is my favorite ;P
